Tu me manques*

Like a calm before the storm
A silence shrouds the heart
Smothering a melancholy beat
For another that's grown apart
Only, there will be no storm
What the heart needs to know
Waiting for rain that won't come
Does not make the pain go

Just that the memories linger
Seeping in, mind's corners find
Feelings, like cuckoo on a clock
Emerge, to constantly remind
How can one open heart's eye
To a story that lives no more
Wake it up from a dream
That but ended a while ago

Everything stops in an instant
Like a tale cursed to be half-told
Like raindrops suspended in fall
Cascades frozen in harsh cold
Like moon that goes hiding
In evenings with longings fraught
Like flowers sans fragrances
Awaiting dark clouds in drought

To the music not heard anymore
Heart just keeps dancing alight
To the tune of a gentler one, who
Left too soon; traveler o' the night
With a mind of its own, the heart
Refuses to let go of fistfuls of joy
Fooling itself into believing
Things that merely time destroy

*In French, to say 'I miss you', you say 'Tu me manques' which literally means 'You are missing from me'.
