The Angst of Almost

Like a breath I entered your chest
Unnoticed, the next moment I left
My desire to know you from within, bereft
Ah, the angst of almost!

Two flowers in a bed, we rose with the Sun,
Till time came to pluck the better one. Left in mud,
My desire to be garland with you, bereft
Ah, the angst of almost!

In a crowded place our eyes met, in recognition,
Lived a lifetime in two seconds, till you looked away
My desire to live and die in your eyes, bereft,
Ah, the angst of almost!

My dreams came true the day I met you,
Cut out my heart, offered it, bleeding, trembling
You put your arm right through invisible me, oblivious
Ah, the angst of almost!
